AwesomeAGClub: The new girl

*inspired by Loren's Welcome home photostory*

I checked my map again. Yep. This was the house.

I raised my hand to knock, but I didn't. I couldn't just barge in on them like this, telling them that they were my family.

As I turned to go, a girl with brown hair and kind eyes pointed at the door. My sister. I held my breath, waiting for her to come open the door. Instead, a girl with curly black hair answered it.

"Hello," she said. "Can I help you?

I tried to speak, but no words would come out. My eyes were fixed on my sister.

The girl noticed my staring. "That's Gracie," she said, pointing. "And I'm Rosie."
Finally, I said, "Are you - is this - um, I..."

Rosie didn't seem to mind my babbling. "Why don't you come inside?" she offered.
I gratefully smiled and stepped inside. It was much to cold to be wearing a sleeveless dress.

Rosie went into the kitchen to get me a glass of water. I took this as a chance to look around. The place was so cozy.

When Rosie got back, she led me into the kitchen and pulled out a chair for me. I sat down and took a deep breath.

"I'm Kit," I began. "This is going to sound weird, but..." I pulled a picture out of my shoe.
Rosie leaned over to study the picture. "That's Gracie," she said. "Where did you get it?"

"I recently found out that I was adopted. A family member of mine told me by accident. So I asked my parents and they confessed. They didn't want to tell me. And then..."

I took a drink of water, my mouth being very dry suddenly.
"And then they gave me this picture and told me that she was my sister. I got her address and here I am now...Gracie's sister."

Rosie stared at me, unblinking. Obviously, she was having a hard time processing this.
"I understand if you don't want me," I said softly. "But my family is going through hard times, and I'm worried they won't be able to afford me anymore."
